Aloha Response Journey

The Munekiyo Hiraga team was fortunate to learn about the ALOHA Response from the late Pono Shim, the former Executive Director of the O‘ahu Economic Development Board. Uncle Pono shared his experience and lifelong learning about ALOHA as was passed on to him by his aunt, the late Pilahi Paki.  The ALOHA response embodies the values and philosopies that MH tries to incorporate in our approach when interacting with each other and others in our community and helps guide us in our work.

As part of our journey and practice of the ALOHA Response, our team discussed what the ALOHA Response would look like.  As the discussion progressed, it expanded to also include MH’s core values of humility, selflessness and gratitude. The infographic above was developed to represent the interactions of MH’s core values, the ALOHA Response, and representations related to the deeper meanings behind each of the ALOHA values and the work that we do.
