The Hawai‘i Health Systems Corporation proposed a two-phase expansion to the Hilo Medical Center to increase Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and Patient Care Unit (PCU) capacity and construct a new Family Birthing Center. The project represents the first expansion since the facility opened in 1985 and meets the urgent need for increased ICU capacity. Munekiyo Hiraga prepared the Environmental Assessment for the project.
