Greg spent his formative childhood years in Moanalua, O’ahu, and briefly attended Moanalua High School before moving to the San Francisco East Bay. He received a BA in Political Science from UC Berkeley, and after discovering a passion for the built environment, Greg went on to earn his Master of Urban Planning from the University of Southern California.
Greg has over 15 years of land use and policy experience, beginning his journey as Senior Aide to the Mayor of Berkeley, California. His experience in the governmental and nonprofit sectors includes working with community groups and local and state elected officials to create and inform land-use and zoning policy, as well as to advocate for housing, bicycle, pedestrian, and transit-oriented projects. His experience also includes enforcing California’s housing law reforms through public interest litigation, and research and policy analysis to increase equitable housing opportunities for lower- and middle-income people of color.
Greg has served as a board member for several local and national nonprofit organizations dedicated to community service and equitable land use policy. He has served in appointed roles on the Berkeley Housing and Environmental Commissions as well as the Alameda County Housing Bond Oversight Committee.
A lifelong ocean lover, Greg signed up to attend what he thought was a once or twice a week outrigger canoe practice with the Mākaha Canoe Club. He ended going to practice four days a week, not including race days, and becoming the steersman for his Nov B crew during regatta racing season.
