Michael T. Munekiyo, Founder
Michael was born and raised in Wailuku. After graduating from Baldwin High School, he attended Colorado State University, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. Although he became a licensed civil engineer in the State of Colorado, Michael realized his calling was actually in another area. He embarked upon a new career path in urban planning at the University of Hawai`i where he received his Master of Urban and Regional Planning degree.
A member of the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP), Michael also serves as a board member of several local non-profit organizations including Hale Makua Health Services, Nisei Veterans Memorial Center, the Honpa Hongwanji Mission of Hawai`i and Wailuku Hongwanji.
With heartfelt gratitude to past and present employees, and MH’s new generation of leaders, Michael retired from the company at the end of 2023. He cites positive relationships with company colleagues, clients, agency representatives, and public stakeholders as the most rewarding elements of his professional planning career.
