Bryan K. Esmeralda, AICP, Senior Associate

Bryan was raised on Maui in the town of Wailuku. After graduating from Baldwin High School, Bryan attended the University of Hawai‘i at Hilo where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science, with minors in Hawaiian Studies and History in 2010.

Growing up, Bryan would visit family members in the Pacific Northwest region, resulting in a love of cool weather and the four seasons. His attachment to this part of the country solidified Bryan’s decision to attend graduate school in the State of Washington. He received his Master of Urban and Regional Planning degree with a specialization in Environmental Planning from Eastern Washington University in 2013.

After working with Munekiyo Hiraga as an intern during winter and spring breaks, Bryan accepted an invitation to join the MH ‘ohana as a full-time employee upon his graduation in 2013. In January 2019 Bryan returned to work in MH’s O‘ahu Office after spending a year working as a Planner for the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands.

Outside of the office, Bryan likes to spend time with family and friends, travel, and keep active with a variety of fitness and outdoor activities.

Bryan also enjoys serving the community and is currently a member of the American Planning Association-Hawai‘i Chapter and the Hawai‘i Pacific Parks Association Board of Directors.

    Something you didn’t know:
Although Bryan was raised on Maui, he was born in Bamberg, Germany as both his parents served with the U.S. Army at that time. In 2018, Bryan and his mother visited Bamberg for the first time since 1987.
