    Cheryl K. Okuma, Senior Associate

    cherylCheryl was born in Honolulu, Hawaii and growing up in an Air Force family took her on many travels between Washington D.C. and Hawaii, including a few years in Japan. She attended the University of Hawaii (Manoa), and was accepted into a program working at the Legal Aid Society of Hawaii earning credits towards a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science. She subsequently moved to San Diego in order to attend California Western School of Law and obtained a Juris Doctor Degree.

    Her career endeavors include private general practice of law, as well as 20 years of government service for the County of Maui as the first Director of the Environmental Management Department authorized by the Charter; the City and County of Honolulu Director of Human Resources Department, Deputy Director of Environmental Services and Wastewater departments, First Deputy and staff attorney at the Corporation Counsel Department; Program Administrator at the Center For Alternative Dispute Resolution of the State of Hawaii Judiciary, and Management Analyst for the U.S. Army 1st Armored Division (Germany).

    She is a member of the Maui Okinawa Kenjin Kai and the Hawaii United Okinawa Association, and a member of the Hawaii and California Bar Associations (inactive).

    Something you didn’t know:
    During the time of war protests, desegregation and bussing, she attended Virginia’s T.C Williams High School, the subject of the movie “Remember the Titans”. She enjoys traveling, growing her own vegetables, snorkeling, and taking walks.
